Fiddle with Pete Clark Pete lives in Perthshire not far from the birth places of Niel Gow and Robert Mackintosh. The beautiful Perthshire landscape has been the inspiration for many of Pete`s compositions to be found on two great Scottish fiddle CDs - The Birnam Oak and Sycamore. Pete`s debut CD 'Fiddle Case' was chosen as one of 1996`s albums of the year on BBC Scotland`s 'Travelling Folk'. His top selling CD 'Even Now' features the music of Niel Gow whilst 'Mackintosh at Murthly' features the compositions of Robert Mackintosh. His new album 'Now & Then' showcases some of Pete`s compositions alongside a few gems from those of the great Scottish fiddle composers, Niel Gow, Willam Marshall and James Scott Skinner. Craigiebield House Hotel, Bog Road, Penicuik, 2.00pm, £5 adults, under 18s free! |

Song with Aileen Carr Aileen Carr was born in Coupar Angus, in Perthshire. In true folk singing style she would happily sing to people as a little girl and as a teenager was encouraged to sing and perform with a local concert party. Aileen continues to sing solo, and over and above her clear, disciplined performances and her excellent, powerful singing voice, her most important attribute is the way she persistently searches out fresh and interesting material from both sung and printed sources, constantly researching texts, tunes and history. Although an eclectic singer in the true folk tradition, it is the great classical story ballads - especially Scottish - and their rich history that she enjoys most of all. St James the Less Church Hall, Broomhill Road, Penicuik, 2.00pm, £5 adults, under 18s free! |

Chris Stout Shetlander Chris Stout is widely-regarded as the leading fiddle player of his generation both in Scotland and beyond, a title he has earned through the plethora of musicians and bands he has collaborated with and more recently with the release of his stunning debut solo album First o’ the Darkenin’. Firmly grounded in his traditional roots but never afraid to explore new territory, Chris sets himself apart not just because of his astounding technical ability and musicianship but because of his determination to take the music to new levels of innovation and experimentation. Seldom in the scope of traditional music will you witness such a powerful combination of technical expertise and sheer musicianship, steeped in the rich Shetland fiddle tradition but taking it to exciting new levels of innovation. |

Brian McNeill Brian plays fiddle, viola, mandolin, cittern, bouzouki, guitar, concertina, bass and hurdy-gurdy, and the importance of his songwriting mostly about Scotland`s past and future has long been recognised. The Yew Tree, The Lads O` The Fair, Montrose and The Snows Of France And Holland were among the best-loved of Battlefield Band`s (which Brian helped to found) repertoire, and The Devil`s Only Daughter won Britain`s prestigious National Songsearch competition in 1987. his recent appointment as Head of Scottish Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow have reinforced Brian`s position as one of today`s great forces in Scotland`s music. Craigiebield House Hotel, Bog Road, Penicuik, 8.00pm: £12/£10 (conc.) |

Siobhan Miller Siobhan is Penicuik`s very own rising star, now in her second year studying for a BA in Scottish Music at the RSAMD in Glasgow. Many Penicuik regulars have watched Siobhan grow up and it is great to see her singing come on in leaps and bounds during the last few years. She recently brought out her first CD "Reflective" and has also starred alongside such luminaries as Jock Tamson`s Bairns. |

Penicuik High School Music Group Folk music has been "raising its profile" gently in Scottish schools and there are some real hot-spots in Midlothian. Our own Penicuik High School boasts some excellent young Clarsach players, fiddlers and singers and a group of them will be performing at our youth concert to turn the focus on local talent. |
